I am a native Spanish speaker, but I have been a Spanish - English bilingual since I was 12 years old. I have lived in the United States and France and have traveled consistently throughout Latin America as a freelance interpreter. I love languages and love teaching about them.
I graduated with an English BA from a small Kansas college and have several certificates for language teaching and translation seminars and workshops.
I have taught Spanish and English for 25 years in different settings: schools, language institutes, and one on one, now, because of the pandemic, teaching virtually. I am also an independent French student, so I can also empathize with language learners.
I map out my overall teaching approach based on the student's goals and learning modalities, and my classes beforehand with a broad, progressive grammatical view in hand: i.e.: verb tenses, everyday useful nouns, adjectives, etc. I prepare specific lessons and real-life activities which will be useful and practical for the student. I use online activities, listening practices, speaking, and reading comprehension. I teach grammar in a student-friendly way and incorporate a cultural perspective as well: Ecuadorian traditions, Latin American literature, etc.
I have a flexible schedule and can adapt to the student's schedule.
I work via Zoom.
