Spanish teacher from Spain. I have more than eight years of experience teaching Spanish to learners and groups of all levels. Background as a classroom teacher in dual immersion programs Spanish-English, and as a private Spanish tutor.
I hold a Bachelor degree in Applied Linguistics (the branch of linguistics that studies how to best teach a second language). I also hold a Bachelor degree in Education.
Both are from UCJC (Madrid).
I have worked as a classroom teacher in Spanish-English immersion programs in both Spain and the United States, I've worked as a TA for the Spanish Department in Skidmore College (USA), in addition to working as a private tutor both online and in person. Most of my experience with groups involves kids.
When working with children I use direct methods, games and repetition to gradually teach language structures. With older learners I adjust my practice to the specific needs of each student. I will make materials personalized to each students, including voice recordings, texts, and homework if requested.
I currently work through the weekdays and am happy to help people learn Spanish after 5 pm, and mornings during the weekends.
I am happy to work online, on site, or at a third party location. Due traffic and gas prices, I will ask for $5/5 min for if I must drive somewhere beyond the first 10 minutes.
I chose Alicia to help me improve my Spanish in advance of a multi-week holiday in Spain. I have a very mixed level of Spanish -- quite a bit of past education and use of the language, but not used for a long time now, and somewhat messed up by studying Italian recently. On top of that I have a recently acquired hearing impairment which makes conversation in a second language much more difficult. Alicia adapted herself extremely well to my situation. She has been patient, engaging, and a pleasure to converse with. Our tutorials often used topics of great mutual interest, but were also always focused on my learning. My verbal comprehension is far better now than it was when we started, and I've had a chance to revive my ability to speak. I have much more confidence and a nice base on which to build during my holiday. ¡Muchas gracias, Alicia!
Alicia is patient and supportive with me at my 'advanced beginner' level in Spanish. She is professional and skilled at teaching Spanish. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her.
Alicia has been tutoring my 15 year old daughter and we couldn't be more pleased with her. She is highly professional and punctual, and comes well-prepared. She uses methods that are both engaging and effective, and I'm sure she'd be just as good with adults and younger kids. Thanks, Alicia!
Alicia is a very engaging Spanish teacher, I had a great time learning with her and look forward to continuing my studys!
Alicia es una maestra maravillosa. She is very experienced and has prepared a teaching method that is clear an easy to understand. She is kind and patient which keeps one's frustration level minimal. Alicia has accommodated my schedule and is flexible with her time. She also incorporates cards and games to encourage Spanish conversation. I selected Alicia because of her proximity however I highly recommend her as a Spanish teacher/tutor as well.
