I had experience tutoring kids about science in high school.
I would suggest following a plan where the first 5-10 minutes is talking in the language casually and repeating what was learned in the previous lesson. Then following a book curriculum along side with reading books and watching short clips in order to immerse the student with the language if the student wants to become a specific category of speaking (A1, A2, B1, B2....). If not, I will still try to immerse the student with the language by showing examples more related to what they would like to get from the lessons (work related, travel related, etc...)
