French native speaker with a passion for teaching and a Bachelor's degree in Humanities and Social Sciences at Sciences Po Paris, with four years of tutoring experience. Born and raised in the Parisian suburbs, specifically in the charming city of Vitry-sur-Seine (yes, it’s as French as it gets!). As a self-proclaimed language nerd, I understand how daunting and confusing learning a new language can be. Over the years, I’ve immersed myself in various languages, including German, Latin, Italian, Czech, Spanish, Standard Arabic, and even French Sign Language (we call it LSF there). What I’ve realized from these experiences is that language learning is an endless journey. Even now, I occasionally stumble upon new French words! The key is to relax, breathe, and embrace this exciting new adventure. As a young French teacher, I believe in a unique approach that emphasizes active learning and daily conversations. My lessons are designed to be as approachable as possible for native English speakers, ensuring that learning French feels natural. Beyond grammar and phrases, I’m eager to share the richness of French culture—both formal and informal—and help you embark on this wonderful linguistic journey!
I'm currently an exchange student at UBC. My home university is Sciences Po Paris, where I'm majoring in political science with a focus on politics and government. I graduated from high school a few years ago with high honors, scoring 18/20 on the written French exam and a perfect 20/20 on the oral exam.
- Internship, Nelson Mandela Media Library: Gained experience in event organization and management, focusing on initiatives to promote reading and cultural engagement among young audiences. Assisted in the development of educational materials for workshops, contributing to the learning experiences of children in the community.
- Tutor, Sciences Po Paris: Successfully mentored and guided around twenty high school students through the rigorous admissions process for Sciences Po, achieving a high acceptance rate. Designed and implemented tailored preparatory sessions aimed at strengthening students' written expression, critical analysis, and argumentation skills essential for entrance exams.
- Internship, Medico-Pedagogical Institute: Provided compassionate care and educational support to children with disabilities aged 3 to 16, focusing on enhancing their academic and social abilities. Collaborated with specialized educators to customize learning activities that addressed the unique needs of each child, fostering an inclusive learning environment.
- Internship, Egali’tieks: Played an active role in initiatives promoting equal educational opportunities, especially for students from underprivileged backgrounds. Led the organization of tutoring and homework assistance workshops, effectively supporting struggling students in improving their academic performance and building confidence.
As an avid language learner and teacher, I believe that active practice is the cornerstone of language acquisition. My teaching philosophy centers around immersive language use, ensuring that students engage with French as much as possible both in written and spoken forms. To achieve this, I implement a no-English policy in the classroom, fostering a full French-language environment that promotes rapid fluency and improvement.
- Initial Assessment and Personalized Learning: At the beginning of our lessons, I conduct an assessment to gauge each student’s proficiency level. This allows me to tailor lesson plans specifically to their needs and goals.
- Comprehensive Skill Development: My approach encompasses a holistic development of language skills, including speaking, writing, reading, and listening. Unlike traditional methods, I incorporate contemporary elements such as text messaging, modern French slang, and cultural insights to make lessons relevant and engaging.
- Cultural Exchange Opportunities: To further enhance the learning experience, I offer opportunities for students to connect with native French speakers. I facilitate language exchange sessions where students can interact with French speakers eager to learn English, creating a dynamic and interactive learning environment.
With a clear understanding of where students are starting and where they aim to go, I provide the guidance and support needed to reach their language goals efficiently. My commitment is to ensure that every student not only learns but thrives in their French language journey.
I have plenty of free time towards the end of the week, but I’m flexible and can adapt to my students’ schedules if needed. Don’t hesitate to reach out so we can find a time that works best for both of us.
Skype, Zoom, Google meet and FaceTime for online meetings.
I prefer public places in Vancouver for in-person meetings such as a nice coffee shop (plus Iove exploring the city and discovering new places to hang out). I can still meet at a client’s home or workplace.
