I am a native speaker of Thai, retired from Thailand, currently in Vancouver, BC. I have five grown-up children whom I personally taught them in semi-home school manners. They are now graduated qualified programmers and scientists from US and Canadian universities. When they were young, I used to teach them Thai and English languages with more interesting non-conventional methods eg. with songs, rhymes, verses, cartoons, movies, documentaries films in addition to conventional English at schools which were not very effective or productive. Somshart was the type of teacher I was hoping for. He gave me the foundation to keep learning and taught me the logic behind the language. “Thai people are very easy and logical!”, he would say. After learning the Thai script, I would learn through songs and topics that interest me, such as the Buddha. Now I find myself in love with Thai music, listening to it everyday, picking out and hearing words. Like most Thai’s, Somshart is very “easy” and flexible. If you are tired or burned out, he will understand. It takes 1100 hours to learn Thai fluently. I’m at about 100 hours now. Somshart built my foundation, created new neural connections in the brain and gave me the desire and passion to keep learning.
I was able to have a few sessions with Somshart until my schedule became unforeseeably busy and I couldn’t fit in time anymore. Somshart made lessons interesting and provided detailed history of many words, which I found fascinating. Once I finish graduate studies, I would like to reach out to continue studying Thai as a hobby.
Somshart is an excellent teacher who takes pride in what he does. Each lesson he comes prepared full of material and goes at the pace that suits you. He makes learning Thai fun by introducing cultural aspects of the language. He is also very flexible in material and focuses on what you want to cover. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a professional tutor in Thai language.
