Hello, my name is Selina and I am an experienced teacher working in the ESL space. I live in Washington DC and I teach kindergarten. I attended the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, New York, where I received my bachelor's in English and minor in Spanish. My interests include studying languages, dancing, crafting, reading, and traveling. As a language-enthusiast myself, I understand the challenges language learners face. I am extremely eager to help you improve your English!
I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English Literature and Minor in Spanish.
I worked at an after school program where I had a dance and photography club. I worked with kids whose ages ranged from 6 to 10 years old. I currently teach kindergarten at a local secondary school.
I use a communicative approach when teaching because I believe that language acquisition comes through communicating the real meaning. For example, I encourage my students to discuss the meaning of passages in books, newspapers, songs, or even explain a menu. As students speak, I correct syntax and pronunciation and have them repeat it in the correct way.
I am available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 17:00 to 19:00. I am also available all day Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00.
I am available for lessons online via Skype or video chat on Whatsapp. I can also meet you in person at a local cafe anywhere in Northwest DC (Dos Gringos in Mount Pleasant usually is my go-to). I would typically pick the cafe because I know of quiet ones but I am open to try something new.
