Being an ESOL /EFL lecturer ( 18 years of experience), am aware of the challenges students face to excel at English and the opportunities they have when they do. In my position of Soft skills coach, am also aware of the importance of such skills for students to excel at their jobs as the linguistic competence is not enough for people to cease good job opportunities. As a CELTA holder, I care about the learner_ centerdness and the objective- oriented approach as well as the task-based teaching. I valorize team work and try to be a good team member. My experience of teaching professionals EAP and ESP allowed me to identify the scopes of interest at work place and make me aware of well preparing my students for such requirements. There are a number of things I try to accomplish for my students: 1. A positive atmosphere. Students are called upon to discuss questions, but mistakes are treated as opportunities to explore misconceptions that need to be adjusted. 2. A window on the world. Almost any event you can link to intercultural aspect of the course and its implications on the ESL learning., 3. Interactive aspect of the learning-teaching process. 4. Access to a caring individual as I work with my office door open, and I am available to help. 5. Empowerment. I believe that anyone can do well in improving his English linguistic competences if he is willing to spend the time at it. Some pick it up quickly, some need to spend more time. If I provide any value added, it is in encouraging all my students to be interested enough in the subject to invest more time. Then, I try to make sure they spend their time productively. 6. Respect. Students work hard, earn their grades, and are entitled to their opinions. My task is to facilitate their learning process.
It depends on the students' availibility and mine. Flexible timing is an alternative.
