Whether you're just starting out at an A1 (total beginner) level, or needing to improve overall spoken skills and confidence at an A2/B1 level, or even looking to ace a B2 exam like DELF for example; look no further, I'm here to help!
I pride myself on offering an empathetic approach that's tailored to your individual needs, keeping things light yet focused on pronunciation/grammar and other linguistic challenges that may arise whilst being very flexible on scheduling and cancellation.
Both French and Dutch native, I studied both languages extensively from elementary to university level (bachelor's degree in business management-marketing) as well as at home growing up.
English came at the ripe age of 7 all the way through to today while Spanish and German education started in High School all the way to University.
Have volunteered for 8 months in Indiana, USA, full English immersion. Spent 6 months on the island of Ibiza, as an international travel host, full Spanish immersion.
I have been living in Mexico since January 2022 where Spanish is my daily go-to language.
Have worked as a freelance translator (French-Dutch and v.v.) for lawyers for over 3 years.
Teaching through Languagetutors for several years has allowed me to hone in on my teaching skills.
Have also worked a little over a year with CLC, a renowned private language school in Montreal, subsequently migrating as a contracting French and English teacher working with several corporate and private clients up until this day.
I focus primarily on the spoken and comprehension parts of the languages offered through conversation, analyzing grammar and discussing topics about your interests and hobbies.
It has been proven that student retention of a language increases many fold when focusing on ones interests and passions. One of the ways I do this is to take a text on a subject you would enjoy, have you read it over out loud a first time, and let you pronounce things the way feels natural to you. Then I will ask you to underline vocabulary or grammar you did not catch. In the meantime, I will have jotted down things which we can already focus on pronunciation wise and will ask you: «How do you pronounce this?» to make a first link into your mind. After that, we read the text again and there we focus on how you should pronounce things and clarify what you did not understand. Last but certainly not least, once you're down with the right pronunciation, have no word left unexplained and understand the structure as well as content of the text, I will ask you to present me with a small, spoken, nutshell resume about it. Once that is done, we can move on to a next phase which is how to use the content of the text you just saw in other situations (e.g. expressions, idioms, verbs, vocabulary, space and time,...).
ALWAYS know that I am most flexible when it comes to my teaching methods and even though this is my preferred method of teaching I understand some of you have a harder time learning this way which is why I encourage students to provide suggestions and feedback so that I too can improve :)
I am flexible on week days as well as weekend, and can adapt to a student's schedule.
Available for Skype/Whatsapp/Zoom/Hangout sessions on camera or just through audio call if you prefer.
Living in Mexico does not permit me to attend in-person sessions in Canada, USA or Europe at this time.
