As a Canadian-born, native English speaker, I have completed 3 technical programs in a Canadian College. With experience working in information technology and in industrial automation with robotics,
I have worked as an ESL instructor/tutor since 2009. I currently work online with students from Japan, Korea, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Italy, England, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, the USA, and Canada. I also worked in industrial automation and robot programming in the GTA and the USA from 2002 to 2008.
I like to tailor each class to the needs of each student/group. I try to be very perceptive and detect what students are struggling with. I like to include interesting reading passages that spark discussion, reflection, and exhibit language patterns and rules. These can also act as focal points for more dialog that will encourage students to engage with their own ideas. I like to introduce in-class team games that serve to review, repeat, and reinforce new vocabulary or grammar in group settings. These games also help to keep students motivated, to feel a sense of achievement in demonstrating their skills, and generally break up the monotony of reading, grammar, and vocabulary for every class.
I am seeking to fill online teaching hours. I am open to working on weekends and evenings or as my clients' needs change.
