Born and raised in Quebec, speaking English, Ukrainian and French. I can appreciate the challenges of learning/working with a language as I've studied English and Ukrainian at the University level, as well as French, Spanish, and Latin. My speciality is writing/editing English text, as well as public presentation (public speaking), from synthesis of an idea to completion of a full presentation. I am fluent in English and Ukrainian, and have a good working knowledge of French.
I have a Master of Arts in Communication and Technology from the University of Alberta. I am well versed in how and why we communicate the way we do. I have undergraduate degrees in Economics and Ukrainian Literature, with a minor in English. I have studied French in France.
I have taught a communication course to approximately 120 undergraduate students at the University of Alberta. I created and presented public speaking seminars to graduate and post-doctoral fellows at the University of Alberta. I have done public speaking in numerous environments (conferences, lectures). I have worked one-on-one with graduate students on their presentations. I worked in professional media (producer at CBC Radio; freelance video writer/producer; freelance print writer/editor; web based instructional design).
1. I determine what goals the student has set. 2. I assess the students present language skills. 3. The student and I design a plan and schedule that will address the needs/challenges of the goals. 4. We set up a rubric and timelines to determine whether or not we are on target. 5. I encourage questions and feedback to ensure the student is moving forward. 6. I LISTEN.
I am flexible. The student and I would negotiate time(s) that work for us both.
Due to the pandemic, I would prefer using skype or zoom. In the event that there is a technical component that needs to be addressed (such as a PowerPoint presentation), those platforms allow for sharing of the technology.
