South African native English speaker holder of a law degree and non-practicing legal practitioner with a 120-hour TEFL certificate. I have 3-5 years in person teaching experience.
I obtained a law degree at the University of the Western Cape in April 2017. I successfully completed law school at the University of Cape Town in December 2017.
I worked as a Candidate Attorney for two years between the periods of 2018-2020. On or about April 2020 I obtained my 120 hour TEFL certificate from an organization identified as "The TEFL Life (PTY) Ltd".
On 04 September 2020 I was admitted as a non-practicing legal practitioner at the Cape Town High Court in the Republic of South Africa.
- 2011-2016 I volunteered as a Sunday School teacher at my local church. - 2017 to current I provide career counselling to local students in my community and exam preparation techniques. - From 2018-2020 I was employed as a Candidate Attorney.
The TPR (Total Physical Response) including hand gestures: pointing to my mouth if I want students to repeat words or sentences and if I want the student to say it again I will lift my hand to my ear, pointing to my mouth will highlight to the student to pay attention as well, eye-contact with the camera when listening for a student to respond.
I will also make use of commands and corrections. With commands the idea is to model what is being taught to students by using TPR indicating with my hands for example to circle the dog by making a round circle movement followed by an action with my two hands replicating the ears of the dog and having my hands above my eyes as a TPR indicator to my students that I am watching to see what they are doing.
For corrections I will use my fingers to count out the words, If my student says incorrectly for example "I see dog" I will point one finger to my mouth and using my fingers to count out and say "I see a dog" followed by pointing to my ear for my student to give the sentence another try and while my student is attempting the sentence again to count down with my fingers and saying the words with no sound.
I will use gestures if the student still does not understand by for example pointing to myself for (I), pointing to my eye for (see), a, making the eyes of a dog for (dog).
Followed by the previous count down using my fingers and having the student repeat the sentence.
When introducing new words I will use gestures that explains the new word being taught I like having the action match the new word being taught or saying the new word and action at the same time and in this way students will even remember the word better because they will be in on it with the actions and having fun too.
I am available at any time when the student is available.
